My name is Ramona Domingo. I am the founder and owner of Pretty Me Couture. I am married to my best friend Romano Nicolai Domingo. I am the youngest of two children. I was born on the 22nd of April 1992 in Cape Town. My parents relocated to Pretoria which has been my home since 1994. I matriculated in 2010 and immediately attended Oakfields College to further my passion for fashion design. I graduated in 2013 and that is when my journey began.
My passion for fashion started at a very young age. As a child my parents asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up, like many I had a whole lot of things I wanted to be. However, I was very sure of one thing. In the language of a child, I said; “I want to be a shop”. That was the 4-7 year old me. As I grew older, I loved drawing and more specifically loved drawing dresses. Especially wedding dresses and evening wear. I can remember how I used to drape my mother’s curtains, bed frills, and sheets around me to create a garment. And that stuck with me. I knew then that designing wedding dresses and special occasion wear is what I wanted to do. I guess my parents saw potential in me and gave me the opportunity to study fashion design. And for that I am forever grateful.
I won my 1st year fashion show which was a huge thing for me. Between 2014 and 2017 I worked at a few bridal boutiques while designing dresses as a hobby. I worked from home out of my bedroom. Somehow, I had lost my passion and desire for designing all together. I continued drawing and designing dresses even though my heart was no longer in it. In 2016 I got married to my amazing husband who believes in me and supports my brand and vision 100%. That brought me to a decisive moment in my life. I had to really dig deep and decide what I wanted for my future. Do I want to live a mundane life and work for someone else or would I rather take a leap of faith, do what I love and have always dreamt of becoming? So, in 2018 I stepped out in faith, rebranded myself and Pretty Me Couture was born.
Pretty Me Couture is a design studio that operates from home in a private and welcoming space. I have embraced every opportunity that has ever come my way and that has contributed immensely to the growth of PMC. From Social media to Expos. One of my proudest moments would be working with Bruidsgids, an opportunity that came my way when I least expected it during hard lockdown in 2020. I grabbed it with both hands, since this has been a dream of mine to have my work featured in this specific magazine!
Another passion of mine is to give back and be a blessing. The only way I could think of giving back was to use my God given talents. Nothing troubles me more than to know that each year there are young girls who are unable to attend their matric farewell due to difficult circumstance. This gave birth to The Pretty Girl Project. The Pretty Girl Project sponsors an under privilege young lady with a custom-made garment, shoes and accessories to make their evening memorable and unforgettable. Nothing puts a bigger smile on my face than to experience the joy on the faces of a future queen.
Pretty Me Couture is growing every year and I have big plans. The immediate plan is to launch our very 1st Pretty Me Boutique.
